(Royal Wedding Day), we are going to Northern Ireland for the weekend to visit our friends, the Donaghadee Male Voice Choir. We will be staying in the Belfast Titanic Quarter and giving two concerts in the Belfast area with the Donaghadee choir while we are there. We have a number of concert dates to finalise for later in the year, so we'll keep you posted after our Irish trip.

Donaghadee Male Voice Choir will be singing at our morning service in Barnburgh Church, followed by lunch in the Village Hall, then over to Wentworth in the afternoon, and a concert in Wentworth Church on Sunday evening, possibly joined by our local Male Voice Choirs.

Our main event this Spring - We are hosting a visit from the Donaghadee Male Voice Choir in Northern Ireland - fifty or so members of the seventy strong choir are coming over. This choir is internationally renowned, having sung in Canada, America, Europe and of course, here in England many times. Their conductor, Robert Wilson, has been awarded the MBE for his services to choral music. They have visited South Yorkshire as our guests several times before.
They will arrive on Friday, 9th April, and we are giving a joint concert with them in Goldthorpe Church that evening. On Saturday 10th April, they are going up to Whitby to sing in the Whitby Music Festival, ( We are going up in the supporters bus!).

We all had a great time baking, knitting Easter chicks and making handicrafts for stalls. Ladies on kitchen duty sold tea, coffee, scones and toasted hot cross buns.The event was well supported and we raised £650! A big thank you to everyone!

Our first concert of the year was in Barnburgh Church when we shared the stage with Barnburgh Male Voice Choir and guest flute player; Claire Eames. Rounding off the season of concerts we held in the church to raise funds for the restoration appeal.
December 2008
The choir had a very busy December 2008 with no less than 10 engagements. The 'Carols on the Green' event went ahead in spite of heavy rain at 6.30pm on the day! By 7pm the sky had cleared, the Rockingham Brass turned up along with a sizeable crowd of carol singers, and the singing went ahead helped along by copious amounts of mulled wine and mince pies. Thanks to William, Lee and Dave - the Muller's!
We were pleased to welcome six new singers towards the end of 2008, bringing our membership to thirty six! Our pianist, Jonathan Storer, has many commitments, so we are happy to have Margaret Briggs to deputise for him. Also, due to changes in acoustics and the limited singing area in Barnburgh Club, we have had to move our practice venue to the Church Hall. We still practice on Wednesdays and start at 8 o'clock, finishing at half past nine. |
